Lincoln-Douglas debaters, I'd strongly encourage you to check out Big Blue Forensics, specifically, the section on Debate Theory. There they give you more in-depth information about values and criteria. They also provide an excellent analysis of different philosophies you may encounter this year.

Also, if you'd like to understand better how competition works in economics, there's a good summary of the different processes here. It's a little dry reading at first, but contains some insightful thoughts about

• who competition benefits,
• escaping competition through cartels and monopolies
• specific values that competition promotes.
